ZAPD (Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities)

Legal Definition

The Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities is established under the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 6 of 2012. ZAPD's mandate is to promote, protect, and coordinate matters relating to persons with disabilities. Functions: advising government on disability policy; coordinating support services (rehabilitation, assistive devices, vocational training); monitoring compliance with the Persons with Disabilities Act; investigating complaints of discrimination against persons with disabilities; and recommending remedial action. Persons with disabilities have the right to: equal access to education, employment, health, and public services; reasonable accommodation in the workplace; accessibility in public buildings; and freedom from harassment and discrimination. To file a complaint: contact ZAPD offices in Lusaka or any provincial office. ZAPD can investigate and recommend action; enforcement can also be pursued through the ZHRC or courts.
