PAIA — Promotion of Access to Information Act
PAIA is the law that gives you the right to request and access records held by government bodies and private companies when you need them to exercise or protect a right.
Legal Definition
The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 gives effect to s32 of the Constitution (right of access to information). It allows any person to request access to records held by public and private bodies.

What if my PAIA request is refused?
You can internally appeal (public bodies) or go directly to court or the Information Regulator if refused.
